Ghost Shard Needs Rebirth
#1

Why does this always happen in life, with everything lmao...

When theres clearly problems and people are hinting at it, and changes need to be done immediately... things get ignored and prosponed and once things start going downhill, PANIC BEGINSSS!!

"staff dont need players, players need staff"

now, finally what you wanted?, once you've finally seen the result, "seen it with your eyes" what this shards dropped down too, and now ALL OF A SUDDEN saying "tell us what you want, were listening, were ready to make changes"

I will never understand... really never will... i really hope im wrong, really hope so, but it's too late in my opinion...

I really want this shard to kick back up to its playerbase, but i think too much damage has been done... TONS of amazing ideas/advice has already been provided, which are on page 17 of the forums page, and no staff was really taking notes and trying to improve things...

players were saying "we will leave!! change things around, we need more active staff, we need newer events, we need newer types of armors/weapons, we need the dungeons modified so we dont need to hit 7 switchs to reach the next stage or dont need 3-4 people to do a dungeon."

no one listened...

Staff here... Listen please...

This is what this shard needs to have any sort of survival from its current stage... im telling you, not asking you. and I mean that with all due respect.

1. Introduce new armors, from a few shittier ones, to 1-2 new rare tourney armors.

2. New mounts, newer colors, EASIER to tame, and variety of colored rides. orns,llamas,zos,mustang,etc... Look, taming takes FOREVER to GM, and takes FOREVER to tame something... It seems like its worthless to gm taming, because theres limited colors and limited spawn times... why gm such a hard skill if you have someone who knows all the spawns and is timing it and taming them all... also go look at vendor mall, all rides are the same... theres the same rides, different vendors... too many of the same things!!! introduce some changes man!

3. 1-2 dungeons where its solo for players, where they can hunt alone, and have monsters which drop decent loot. this will create action in pvm, people can do this alone... and also add pvp in dungeons because pkers will be searching.

4. Staff... I see some new staff now, mostly Necro.... If we had 1-2 more staff, as active as necro, and hosting daily like him, we would be ok. need them to answer pages, (not many anymore thats for sure), host, and give players a sense of "backup" if it makes sense. because for some reason, players like playing when theres a staff online.

5.Events... Add new events, Horse Racing, Make some sort of chicken fighting, more monster bashes, etc... new events!!! and varieties!

There's more, but these are definately essential ones. Follow this guide-line staff, and there will slowly be more action and players logging on.

I've played this game long enough to know whats causing people boredom and what is needed. The key is, WE are players, and what players see, staff cannot see... we are playing this game you've developped for us, and we're telling you wants needed to keep us entertained...

I REALLLLLLLY hope this time around, my post wont end up on the 20th page, and will be taken seriously, and these changes will be implemented...

And if you're reading this, hopefully staff, and saying no... WHAT DO U HAVE TO LOSE??? the player base is at 24 ATM, is it really not worth giving it a shot? because i'll tell you one thing, once the forums of a shard is dead, theres a HUGE problem...

Thanks...

yeyeye!

Staff has been very active. I have been doing at least 2 events a day, Necro the same and people still have Promoe and Muto events. I believe that we (staff) are making an average of 4/5 events per day during the week (more on the weekend), which is great if you ask me. So there I think we are delivering what players want in that particular aspect.

Sphinx hes saying that theres only events and acitivity now that the shard is almsot dead, there wasn't enough attention when the shard was going good and had a smooth playerbase

I know you necro Promoe and Muto have been active a lot good but it took them a while to hire you new guys you and Necro, not to mention Promoe hasn't been staff very long either recently just got his GM from CNS and Raigain doesn't even log on anymore..

Yes I did understand what he said, but what I'm trying to transmit is this: Lets not keep talking on what happen, lets see what we have and what we can do. By the time that all those threads about "what should be changed" appear, Taran said he was looking into recruiting some more staff and like 2 weeks later Necro was introduced to the community and 1 week after I came in. We are trying to give a hand to the existing staff, trying to help the players and give them more events, etc. In my opinion, this is something already...Now we should just try to move forward and get this back up. It would be awesome to have players support on this, getting you online and play. I will speak from my behalf now: Staffing for me is a pleasure, I really enjoy being able to help players and give them fun things to do, its simply a pleasure to watch you all play and have fun, its the real output that I get from everything I do. But I also need you guys to play to keep me getting even more interested in this "job" Smile

I agree with what Silverwolf said. Last time I had a few disagreements with what he brought up but I don't see anything wrong with what he said here. Individually these things might not seem like much but together they add up.

Armors
I've seen quite a few players saying to change out some armors, or to alternate some armors every few months. Ex: January to March you can get ice ingots, April-June these get replaced with another ingot type, July-September another ingot type, October - December another ingot type. It doesn't have to be every 3 months, it could be ingot a for 1 month, ingot b for 5 months, ingot c for 2 months, ingot d for 4 months, etc.

Spawns
I see no harm in adding more spawns or more colors, it will just be something for people to do. Maybe even like has been suggested with armors, alternate some colors in and out of circulation to try and keep them rare.

Dungeongs
See what was brought up here by Gibran and myself.

Events
For events, I'm trying to get horse races implemented, there are a few spawns for fighting cocks which you can train and make fight each other. I think this has only been hosted one time, if it were hosted more often that would be great because you also have to spend time training your cock so he is stronger. Necro also started a thread here dedicated to getting players to try and come up with new events. Yank suggested an interesting one. Maybe you want to check it out silver.

The new staff are doing a great job. There are plenty of events hosted daily for those who enjoy events. The thing is my buddies never participated in events because PvP was not there thing and even the PvM monster bash did not appeal to them either. All of my friends just enjoyed hunting and crafting. Once they figured out the economy was bad and that hunting did not produce hardly anything, they decided to quit. They became sick of hunting the same monsters over and over and became bored with that aspect of the game. So all they did was macro, macro, macro and one day a light bulb went off and they said "Why am I macroing all the time since there is nothing to do on here? I can't make money because of the economy, I can't hunt anymore because there is nothing worth hunting except Extreme monsters and dragons in Destard.". The staff are currently in the process of tweaking monster loot and this is a great start and I am sure this will bring more people here and keep them here. Hiring new staff was necessary but this is not the reason for players leaving the shard. If you have something to do in the game you have no need to always depend on the staff for fun. This is where the problem is, as there is not much to do on the shard other than PvP and go to events. We need to appeal to the new guy who wants to come on to hunt, craft, and macro. We need to start working on the PvM aspect of the game since the PvP aspect is pretty solid. Lets say you are a hunter/crafter. What will you do with all your money? Buy statics and tubs and just make more money for what reason? We need to introduce new rare items into the game that are extremely hard to get and different things to do to occupy your time. I guarantee we will get a bigger player base once we do this. I will cut it short right there as there are enough suggestions out there and are already being looked into.

As Gibran has pointed out some of these suggestions are already being looked into and like Sphinx said let's not focus on the past but the present and future.

Well I agree with what has been said here and I see myself in the same position of Gibran friends. I was never really a PvP but I'm starting to learn it because theres nothing more to do. I trying to finish my skills and reach max. but what then? I will probably end up like Rabbi, loads of gold, all skills gmed, few statics bought and nothing else to do nor new objectives.

Silverwolf Wrote:and now ALL OF A SUDDEN saying "tell us what you want, were listening, were ready to make changes"

i don't agree here, because staff has allways listened to everyones opinions. it's just that some people have he tendency to be rude and complain when coming up with their opinions and don't take things maturely or explain in a construtive manner

From someone that has played this game for many years all on free shards and have seen quite a few strong ones come and go, I find this has very little to do with Staff and more to do with the way this server is portrayed. I honestly feel that throwing free skills at noobies is a mistake. I've been here for a month and I've already seen so many people come in go in a matter of days/weeks because every server I've played on that magically makes players into viable PvP and even decent PvM characters caters to the wrong type of player. The player I'm talking about is the griever, someone who just comes to the shard to **** around, be a pain in the ass and then leave when their short attention span is fulfilled. Honestly on paper, with the exception of that one fatal flaw, this shard seems perfect to me. I started playing this game in the late 90's and I love the retro feel this server brings. Basically there needs to be more of a catering to the hardcore player and not the casual crowd. The casual crowd are fickle and will be the first to complain about any little thing. I honestly feel that all this negativity is making recruiting new players very difficult, and while I normally do not support censorship, I feel whomever the moderator of the forum is should delete these threads the instant they pop up. It makes the shard and staff look bad, and that isn't fair. While I mainly macro and mine lately, even I notice there is an obscene number of events taking place. So there can be no complaints regarding staff not being active. The only slight gripe I have about these events are the fact that they almost always revolve around PvP. Alittle originality goes a long way. Scavenger hunts in which the players get a few clues as to where a specially made monster with unique loot is and such are always relatively simple and easy to get an entire server envolved instead of just the PvP crowd. Anyway, I know this was a long post but I just wanted to put my two cents in. The server and staff are great. The problem is the players. It almost appears to me the server's hardcore population is incredibly low and steps need to be taken to get those types in. Not the here one week gone the next type.

Figured I'd make a 2nd go at it in a more counter point basis (easier to read):

1: If pretty colored armors are what keeps you playing this game then you are not a true UO gamer bottom line. The fewer the modifications of the original game the better. No Skill caps is one thing, putting in 50 different colored armors and such is for the ADD crowd. Grow up, this game isnt about hording things, if that's what you want play Diablo.

2:I've never played on a server that have as many different colors for animals and such. Again this goes back to #1, if you need pretty colors to make you feel special take your ass down to H&M or Filene's and buy yourself a dress you queen. Also making taming easier would only make these mounts worth even less than they are now. 5k gold for a mustang is ridiculous. I know comparing economies from one shard to another is apples and oranges but I mean I can mine and sell my daggers for 1 hour and make that gold. You need to reward the people that put the time into their characters, not the people with 2000 total skill level.

3:I haven't done much solo dungeon crawling yet on my character so I cant really comment on this much. But if it is as you say it is and no dungeon can be done alone than that is an issue. Not everyone plays this for the social aspect, and there are alot of different time zone'd players here. Also the lower population base at the moment makes grouping with others more difficult.

4:Like I said before, Staff isnt an issue. More staff equals less players. If we have lets say 10 staff members thats 10 less players this server would have instead and chances are they are the "hardcore" players that we want. Considering how we have about 30-40 players on average logged on I cant imagine needing more than half a dozen GM/Counselors/Seers invovled. More than that is dead weight.

5:I agree on this front as well to an extent. We have alot of events, they just so happen to always be the same thing. PvP based. Not everyone enjoys PvPing, and to be honest I'm willing to bet most people here dont enjoy PvP. It's important to emphasize, but if you have Duel Stones and Ladders and such, what is the point of hosting tournies all the time? Maybe I dont know how your Duel Stones work and if the dispense some sort of reward currency like I have seen on other shards but the point of these are to take Staff involvement in PvP away or atleast make it a smaller priority. Quests involving sailing, racing, anything different would make a world of difference in getting more people invovled and not the 6-8 people these 1v1 tournies are bringing in.

Anyway, another 2 cents from me. I obviously have a vested interested in this server staying strong as I've already devoted a good month or so of my time here and would like it not to be in vein. So to that I say support the staff, stay positive and stop *****ing. People want to play somewhere they know will still be there a few months down the road and I'll be completely honest when I say this, if I was thinking about playing here for the first time today I would defintely pass. The negativity of some of these loud mouthed minorities make the entire shard look amatuerish and unprofessional. It's hard enough trying to get people to play a 13 year old game, dont make it harder by pushing these few and far between potential players to other shards.

Very well spoken, Smack.
