Static Auctioning :Shade:
#1

Actually the forums isnt the most reasonable place for it. I can almost guarantee a quarter to half the shard NEVER visits the forums. I guarantee that.... I can pretty much say only a quarter of the shard even actually votes .. let alone bid on a static ? The auctioning idea isnt a total failure it has some good promising ideals to it.. However doing it over forums is a complete waist. Most people probably dont even know about this static being sold and also people placing bids arent even liable for buying it after placing it.. There should be an auction stone or vender placed infront of the said property to where you can place your bid and the auctioneer records the information and checks for sufficient gold with a timer on how many days till auction ends. Sorry about the grammar and typing its like 6 am my time.. lolz But anyway I know tons can agree with this post. Another last thought I havent really read the rules or what not for here.. But what if a player wanted to get into realistate here he couldnt.. Auctioning off a high profile static like this is not the way to go in my opinion. However, if thats what everyone did so want was an auction because 1. they either didnt have the money to buy it before someone else said HEY I WANT TO BUY THAT! or.. because they never thought of it.. It should have been handled in game with a script to insure it was handled properly. Not someone just typing in 375k! Over forums. It's not a good method and if the auctions continue i know you agree there will be a better system put into place because its only a matter of time before something bad happens with this method. If you actually think everyone reads the forums over the game your crazy.. Look at the online forums count does it ever read 99 users ? Maybe prior to a new release or down time.... People goto forums as a secondary method to the game not their first priority.. In game is .. Anyways If anyone wants to bash my comments or think my idea is stupid let me know till then.. Here's the thing, where are you gonna place an auction stone ingame so that guaranteed everyone sees it? You can't put it by the bank in a blue/red town since reds can't go to blue towns, and a lot of blues try to avoid red towns. You can't put it in front of the house because someone might not walk by it every time they play, but maybe they have thought of buying it and just haven't asked since they just need a little bit more money to buy it. You could put it in the pits but not everyone goes there, and some people only go there to go to another city instead of recalling. People don't always stop and examine every square of the pits to see what's happening.

Doing an auction on the forums where you can place bid for a bit more then you actually have gives you a chance to get that little bit extra cash to buy the house if you end up with the winning bid. If you bid more then you have then it's pretty simple, the next highest person gets it or the bidding goes on for another x number of hours.

How are you going to guarantee that someone logs in to check if an auction is going on? If you are at school I doubt that you have UO installed on the computers in the library or labs, or maybe it's not installed on your laptop, or maybe you don't own a laptop. It's much easier for someone to check the forums for a bid then to check ingame since a website is far more accessible then a game.

Just my thoughts on why it's fine the way it is.

they can add a little house model in or outside pits with co-ordinates and a town location that way everyone can see it in game as well

I think the bidding should stay on the forums for the reasons 80 said and a few others. For example, if you place the stone near the house, if you wanted to win it, all you'd have to do is get your friends and camp the stone to kill anyone who came near it for the last few hours of the auction.

My suggestions: Having a spawner that broadcasts once every 2-3 hours if a static is up for auction.

Quote:[Auction Crier] Hear ye, year ye! {building description & location} has been marked for public auction. (Visit the IN-X.org forums for more information or to place a bid.)

Other suggestion: Figure up some sort of item that means a static is being auctioned and put it in the pits when an auction's going on. (Mini-Houses maybe?) If people click it, it will tell them the location and basic info about the house.

It<s fine that the auction takes place on the forum, it's pretty ez to track bids and see pictures of the static and everything.

BUT there should be a place in pits where you can SEE that an auction is going on SO THAT YOU KNOW that you should go read the forums if you<re interested to that.

That<s my point!

I don't think it would do any harm having something in pits. Like Eru said it could be a little house model (dunno if all the buildings in UO are available as house models like most of the regular ones) but we could have something simple like a flag pole. When the flag is up it means there's an auction, when it's down there's none.

If they don't know about the forums that's one thing, but if they simply don't come on forums even though they know about it then they're shunning a valuable resource for information and communication.

And THAT is their OWN problem.
