people departing from pits
#13

Taran Wrote:Could you explain a bit more in detail how it worked?
We had that option enabled during a period of time at the sphere version of XUO. It broadcasted everytime somebody entered or left a region. People could not choose if they wanted this to be enabled or not, it was always enabled, and could only be disabled through the sphere.ini-file on the server.

A quote from the sphere.ini-file: Wrote:// Switch to turn the arrival and departure messages on and off
ARRIVEDEPARTMSG=0

Anyways, if we would add this at IN-X then it would probably promote ganking at this point, but once we get bigger it'll be spamming everybodys screen just like some people were afraid that it would. If players would be able to choose if they wanted it to broadcast their location then everybody would turn it off, and instead just watch where other people are it.

Anyways, it could be good for ganking when we have a small client base but it won't really work out with a big one. I'm OK with us enabling it for now if the players would want it to be enabled, but I believe that it would make people hunt less and be way more worried about getting ganked while hunting. Being "able to hunt without everybody knowing where u are" is kind of a thing I'm sure a lot of people appreciate a lot.

Uhm, so yeah, it was nice at a PvP shard like XUO, but I think it'll have more downsides than benefits here at IN-X.

Was there a command so you could decide for yourself if it should broadcast when you left pits? And if so, did that message only broadcast to other players who has that command on?

And if so... couldnt you just turn on the command in pits, then turn it off and exit pits so noone would know?

How did it announce? In your screenshot it only says "xxx has departed from Yew Territory". It doesnt say pits?
Also, did it say where that player went?

Its wasnt that complex Taran, it says Yew Territory because in XUO pits was in Yew Territory..

Example: Im in pits and go to britain, the others player will see

Hiroshima left Pits Area.

Simply that, but having you said that Taran I think we can improve it for Pks...
For example, ppl can turn on their status and they are trackable all over the world. Ex: If I have my option of tracking players on, and I go to Destard others players with having it on will see
Hiroshima arrived Destard.

If you have it off you will simply show leaving/arriving pits.!
I think its a good idea. Maybe you could choose to show nothing.!

yeah i agree we are small but if we enable it, it may get some ganking going on or some other active people and we may grow because people see that were actually more active then usual then just sitting in pits Tongue

Yeah you got it basically pits was in yew territory so when people left pits we saw the message "so and so has departed from the pits" and i'm pretty sure it only work with pits when you left and there was no command to enable it or disabled it like hate said it was always enabled.

@Shade, I'm sure a few people leaving and exiting wont cause too much spam.. i mean it's one line at a time it wouldn't cause lag really

There was no command but we can improve it to make it better Wink!

Well all it would say is Hiroshima has left the pits, meaning youve gone to 1/4 places from pits i don't think there should be a command to hide your self =/ or else why would they add it to begin with people would just leave it off all the time..

If everybody choose to turn off its cause everybody dont like it. Thats how I see.

If we do this then people will turn it off when they're alone, to avoid getting ganked, and turn it on when they're in groups with friends to find others to gank. The downside to this is just that the players whose alone will always have it off, and the players in groups will always have it on, so it will only "help" get gank wars started, and since we don't really have that many "groups of gankers" at IN-X it'll probably be almost everybody having it turned off at most times :/

Anyways, like I said if people would like to try that then I don't mind us trying it (with an on/off feature), but I think that people will just abuse it and turn it off whenever they want to go somewhere and not let people see it, and turn it on when they want to track other players.

You want us to always have an "Hiroshima arrived at the pits" and "Hiroshima left the pits" thing active even when people have turned this feature off? That may be "OK" if players would like it at a small shard, but I think that once again if the shard grows bigger it'll spam players with broadcast and I don't think they'll like it that much, at least not the ones that aren't ganking :/

Keep discussing tho, if u can find a good solution to the problems and if the players would want it then I'm willing to try it, but I still think that this feature is better suited for a PvP shard.

i say we try it for a week like we tryed pits without a week, never know you might like it to communicate with friends and meet up with people

I'll leave that to up to Taran to decide, but I'd suggest you make a poll about it and see what the votes look like, it may help him in his decision :] Also keep bringing up the "positive sides" about trying it in this thread, if you get enough good arguments to try it then I see no reason why we wouldn't be able to try it for a short while, but in the end it's up to Taran to decide, so start convincing him that it's a good idea to try it and we'll see what happens Wink

I think that it would have its uses if you were to limit it to only PVP hotpots. For instance, if you were to exit the pits to Occlo or Britain's Bridge, it might give a message for that, but not for every time someone goes to Britain. And you could spread the shard up into large areas that would reduce the number of times that the announcement happens, with a timer afterward to keep people from spamming the shard by walking back and forth across the bounding lines. The timer would also let people "mask" where they're really going by sending a fake message, then going to the place they really want to go to.

Plus, you can see how active the shard is at the moment by looking at the number of messages you get. That way, you can see if it's worth running around looking for people to gank or if everyone's macroing.

I don't know. It would have its upsides and its down sides and I'll let staff figure out what to do.

hmm that can work sinderen, i mean like have it actiaved for a certain ammount of time and then say after for example 6 pm eastern time, it gets deactivated like theres a timer on it =]
