The Pleasurable Feeling of Paranoia
#1

Alright so this suggestion isn't really my own creative and original idea. It should really be credited to who ever thought of it first, seeing as how I don't know the name of that person or group of people I can't really attribute it to them, but nonetheless it is a very good idea (for pvpers).

Ok so before I say this suggestion I would first like you be in an open minded mood. Because seeing as how most of you post readers will be PVE'rs you are going to immediately shut this idea out. (I only say PVE'rs because I looked at server status and everyone's kills was 0, so I assume no one pvps).

The suggestion: A GPS Tracker on all players be open to the public. So basically what I'm saying is that somewhere on this site, maybe on the server status next to everyones name should also be their in game coordinates. The purpose of this is to :

1. Attract lost PVPers to this shard as it now may give them a reason to play here. PVPers can now expand their limited realm of pking from outside Britain Bridge and Occlo to trivial dungeons where PVErs are hunting.

2. This also gives motivation to PVErs to finally adopt the ways of PVP. It finally gives them the incentive to try PVPINg or at the very least come up with some sort of self defense mechanism.

3. Well as the title of the post says "The Pleasurable Feeling of Paranoia" it adds a bit of adventure and "Fun" to the shard. Its little bit of horror and excitement that builds into the game and gets rid of the old boring and banal atmosphere.

And if you do find the coordinate system as unproductive and a disservice to the server, then like all bad ideas you throw it out! But hey you'll never what it will be like until you try it! Cool

I'd personally like it. But your right all the crafters/pve which are the bulk of whos left that still plays are going to hate the idea. Its a rp/pvp shard though, and this sort of attitude of "Oh I should never be attacked cuz I cant defend myself cuz I never set macros or learned pvp" is just.. well I think its stupid. There are quite a few large pop shards where pvp is disabled, if you dont want to learn pvp or participate in pvp, why play a pvp shard? PvP'ers have a terrible time trying to find anyone to pvp while crafters can just mine away all day in some hidden corner of the map never being found. It feels bunk to me. With a low playerbase and a big map a tracking system would definitely help to stir things up.

edit: The main problem with this is, some of the pvp'ers just dont know when to stop. They WILL use it to harass people. And they will kill people until they eventually quit playing. I guess some rules could be put in place to stop that, like jail sentences for players abusing it, but its a lot of extra hassle for the staff to try and police something like that.

I really hate that ideia, you can find everything in world just by marking places that certains people are going ( I see rabbi reacalling unstoply so I start to write his cords, after some time....I got all mustangs locations, all rare drops and such ¬¬). Yes Im selfish with things I lost days searching.

Wanna find someone, Pay a new server for a year so Taran can send emails out and with hope we gonna get 100+ players again so you can find people easy.

Also I like my privacity, I like have a place to macro (mining or lumber) safe. This Idea come to real = -1 player, I for sure stop play, but if you got +10 so good for u.

But I'm sure you just go lost one. with that playerbase even knowing where people are you dont gonna have a chance to kill he. Cause they all are in safe zone.

ps: that my first and last post here, my opnion is : I hate it. Nothing more to say.

I prefer Alzheimer than Parkinson. Better forget to pay the beer than pour it all.

It might make more sense to have a tracking system by region. Not exact coords but rather something like. X Player is in the city of britain. Or X Player is in the Dungeon of Hythloth. X Player is in the forests of Yew. Etc. Doesnt give away exact coords, but gives a general region so pvpers could head out and search for them.

I think saying the region would be even worse then plain old coords. Player X is in Destard or Player X is at 2301, 1306, 22. If I wanted to harass someone as fast as possible I rather know their general location quickly instead of checking coords.

I say harass because thats all systems like this do. Oh you don't like someone? Check their region or coords every so often and find their house, hunting spots and daily locations. Maybe they short changed you, gwhacked you or are just annoying and you want to annoy them right back. Chances are things like this will make players quit. Wait no, I guarantee it will as we already had 2 people quit because of a similar issue.

What some of you forget, Jiraiya *cough*, is that not everyone plays to pvp. If you find them and kill them, well good for you but they shouldn't have tracking bugs implanted in their foreheads so you can track them down easily and annoy players who wish to avoid such things as much as possible. The most annoying thing about all this though is the fact that it is completely unrealistic to the UO world.

what if people could choose to have the tracking on or off?

edit to clearify:
if i want to be tracked i can turn it on. if i dont i can turn it off.

Aye... i've already suggested this to Muto. I think it would be cool idea;p Many people want to be found and so on, i personally would turn it on. Look, for example if u don't have it turned on then u don't see other players also, but if u set it to show your location, you will see rest people who've set it too. And it will display coordinats. No need to display such places as houses, guard zones , etc. Like on xuo - if u are on house region/guard zone it would be shown as "Hidden"
And most important, if it will be implemented players shouldn't be able to switch "show" or "hide" their location as much as they want. Like guildtypes i think. Once in week or at least once in 3-4 days. So you won't be able to hunt for people when u want to, and then go kill mobs without any worry that someone might catch you.

For ppl who won't enable this, it will show something like "Chicken" instead of hes location. /joke;p

Actually I didnt forget that at all, I made mention of how I dislike the "We dont pvp just cuz" mentality of a lot of people, therefor acknowledging their existence and playstyle, just not agreeing with it. Like I said before, its a rp/pvp shard, theres a ton of non pvp shards out there for people who dont like pvp.

I like Odium and Gangs idea though.

I'm fine with it being optional as long as players know how to do so. Plus it would probably be in the best interest of all new players if it was off by default.

Still the idea of a tracking system... UO GPS just doesn't sit right with me.

Yeah but its no different then what people could do anyway via a uoam group. You know what I mean? I havn't done it in years but I remember having like 8 of my friends on my uoam constantly tracking them. And they could send out like a msn nudge sorta thing if they came under attack.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!

You can't DISABLE tracking OR IT WILL DEFEAT THE PURPOSE THAT I'M TRYING TO GET ACROSS!!!

The element of surprise is now gone and SO IS THE "Pleasurable Feeling of Paranoia"!!!!

Player A "Yeah I have a full set of (fill in good armor here) and I'm gonna go hunt! better turn off tracking! Big Grin"

Player B "I'm gonna turn tracking on go to Destard and have the rest of my gank buddies keep tracking off SO WE CAN AMBUSH PPLZ HAHAHA HEHEEHE MUAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA EVIL!!!!!"

That becomes the problem Tongue Although the second part is quite hilarious Smile

PVE'rs my only suggestion to you guys is "grow a pair"

Theres pro's and con's to it. And while the pro's are good, the cons are also quite bad. So the only way this would ever happen is in a limited form if at all. But maybe I'll be wrong about that ;P
