Through the eyes of a new player
#1

Hello all i have only been playing a couple of days here. Today i spent alot of time reading forum posts and i noticed anytime idea posts were presented all it managed to do was start a flame war. Of course with each person saying its childish to flame, but yet continue to do so themselves. Made me giggle alot. P.S guess nothing ever changes on forums.

IMO the skill gain on the shard is fine. I have played harder and easier. No-one will ever be satisfied. You can't please everyone.

The PvM needs a little work though. When you have 82 swords and 65 tactics i'm pretty sure you should hit a monster more then 1 out of 4 swings. But even then its still livable. The spawns need a serious revamp though. Its kinda like the guy who spawned tossed water baloons full of random monsters everywhere. Not really well thought out at all.

The PvP i must confess confuses me alot. I was recently ganked at brit bridge today and noticed some things ( to get ganked oh well shit happens) and i asked some of the players a few questions to get an idea on the pvp here. For example if i am para'd i can get out of it with a magic arrow. But if someone casts(well was 5) fs i cannot target with a faster spell and dispell it (or fizzle if you prefer). No offense intended for anyone but doesn't that turn mage pvp into just straight los (line of sight) with no way to defend against a gank? Again IMO doesn't that make pvp non versatile and fairly boring. I'm just looking to understand more on it.

The Staff now this is one everyone should respect. Wether the staff listens to our ideas or not. It is their shard in the end so they should have that option, They put their spare time in to make and serve a place where you can come play free of charge and as always in the end they take alot of heat with little or no praise. If the owner of the shard has an idea on how he wants things guess what, its his shard. If you were making your self a heavymetal mixed cd and someone tells you to toss a backdoor boy song on it would you? Jesus cut them some slack.

And no i'm not a newbie. I had Uo the day it was released and have played and staffed pretty much every emulator in existence.

Hehe, wellcome.
I'll answer some questions for you Wink
I agree the PvM needs a little work on it. The spawns and its loots.
When you talk about swords and tactics I feel identified. It's supposed to be a Sphere replica, but fail rates are not as they should be (not only in combat skills, also in crafting skills I think) Nevertheless, I am not sure if this is intended or not.
About the PvP:
This is a Sphere replica, so MagicResistance doesn't work as it should. You get less damage from spells, but that's all. I tell you this because if MagicResist works this way, you'll allways fizzle an spell with magic arrow or harm. And what's the problem about it? Yes, this could make ganking more fun, since you could survive a 2vs1 or 3vs1 easy, but this way 1vs1 would be ruined, because a 1vs1 duel would last forever. Better said... 1vs1 would never end hehe. This is the reason for fizzling isn't available.

1v1 would just have to use their weapons more than magic.

a lot of the PVP is set up for a 1v1 or 2v2 battle, since tourneys are a big part of the server. But I'll agree that the PVE portion is a little wierd. I walked out of britain and there's orcs, trolls, gazers, dire wolves and reapers all sitting around the same spot just as happy as clams. I think they were roasting marshmallows togeather. Tongue

And I noticed the same problem with hit rate. I'm 63 swords, 55 tactics (or round'about) and I hardly every hit anything. Sad And I hear I'm not supposed to make a second account to spar with myself to raise skill. >_<

Hello Toker, mature players are always welcome Smile

As people have said the pvp is geared toward more tourney balancing. Sphere had a hard pvp system to balance and maka did a great job with what he had. I can't say I've pvped much but the dedication of many of the players here to the pvp speaks for its hidden depth.

Yes it might be hard to survive a mage gank but if 5 people are FSing you I'm pretty sure you'd be dead wherever you play. Perhaps I'm wrong its been a while since I played a true sphere server and same goes for a vanilla runuo server.

As for the monsters your complaints about clumps of monsters is a byproduct of the runuo spawner system. A spawner gem is a very powerful tool, but it isn't perfect. It spawns in a area surrounding the gem and in many places the settings on spawners aren't ideal.

Most of the world spawns were done using a default spawner file that comes with runuo. The staff who were developing had their hands full rescripting runuo to mimic sphere, trust me it was a daunting task and I'm glad I joined after most of that had been done. There simply wasn't time or resources to assign staff to respawn stuff that was already spawned and fix clumping issues.

More attention was paid to dungeons and if you visit some of the custom dungeons you'll find spawns to be more varied and overall better. Just avoid deceit until you're strong and have some friends to hunt with. Wink
