Roleplaying, comments and observations
#1

The single main thing that attracted me to IN1 was the mix of RP and pvp. On there almost everyone who alligned order or chaos did it with the intention of following the RP aspect of that aswell. Im not talking pure and perfect RP here just the basics in an adventure world. Order dont attack order or go around PK'ing. That sort of basic.
It was certainly the driving force that got me to allign order when i had 50 healing and 45 magery.

Now i understand that XUO was purely a pvp orientated shard based on 51a combat but with some rather large changes to scrolls.
Was there any kind of RP on that shard?
The names ive seen come up certainly suggest that it was a very much NON RP shard. So does the behaviour ive seen from some of the XUO players.

How do you, staff, intend to merge these 2 things?
Will you let the community do that in which case RP will most likely cease to exist or will you encourage RP in the way of events, staff administrated guilds, shard storyline?

Im aware of RP items but they alone wont bring RP out. Its is in my oppinion important to encourage it by running events that follow a storyline. Like the fall of britain on IN1. Over a few weeks monster were attacking the city and after a big fight the entire west side of town was lost to chaos.

Will there be naming rules? Its hard to stay in character when MrMassMurderer IWankAlot runs around town. Same goes for pets.

How will you start of the server once it goes live? It kinda needs a story to start of with given that so many will start with skills and gold and statics. Perhaps just a introduction so that players can shape their own "awakening" with a story of their own.

Also im sorta against all those pvp events/tourneys. I might be the only one but i still have the right to say it Wink

Is there a staff member whose main thing is RP? Azreal is Quest Coordinator so is that him? If so i havent seen him around for a while. Is he still active? I might like to throw some ideas around.

Post is a bit messy but i hope i got it over alright Smile

XUO was purely PvP based, that's one of the reasons Makaveli decided to merge with IN:R. He wanted to give the players more choice and also to give the shard a better "feeling".

It's not the most easiest thing in the world to merge a pure PvP shard with an RP/PvP shard. But we have certain guidelines that will surely help. For instance, there are some rules on the website that people will have to follow, like not naming their characters "l33td00d2k!11". We also have a designated questdirector (in this case Azrael) who will throw many events and quests that will somehow follow an RP theme.

There will also be a staff member whose main task is RP, I was that before but I have many other things to take care of now. Someone else will be selected for this though. Azrael is still around from what I can tell.

I haven't given much thought about a beginning story actually, but it's a good idea and I will surely look into it. Maybe you have some ideas you can share with me? I'd be more than happy to discuss this further with you. E-mail me on [email protected] or add me to MSN (it's in my profile).

You should also check our website if you haven't already. You will find lots of information about the shard there, how we plan to run things, what kind of features we have etc.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Imagine Nation: Xtreme will most definitely be a great shard to play on Smile

Glad to hear that RP'ing wont be forgotten Smile

Ill add you on msn and try to get some ideas for a story.

Great input Veno, it's nice to see when players show some thought through concern and post it in a readable, non flaming, way.

RP will, like taran said, be ecouraged by the staff as good as we can. We do not want to interfere to much with rules, but some rules are needed. Like the naming rules and staying "in character" rule for RPers.

If more people has any ideas on how we can encourage RP in a good way, while still keeping freedom to choose, feel free to post here. It's really an important aspect of the game that we do not take lightly on.

The thing about IN was that it had the freedom of choice. You did not have to go all out with roleplaying if you didn't want to, You did not have to stay in character 24/7, And that is what I came to love about the RP-aspect of Imagine-Nation. I loved how some people did go all out though! It created a certain depth to the game that I had not experienced before and the people who did Roleplay all the way, were often very easy to make friends with, because if you used a word like "Aye" once, they just started talking to you and helping you out, wich was very usefull for a newbie in the very begining. Roleplayers were a great chance to become part of the community, They helped you out, introduced you to new people, who later became to be you're best friends ingame. Roleplayers are a great way to build a Server, wich I'm sure the XUO players will come to recognize.

Now for the Average Roleplayer like Myself.
This is what I came to fell in love with, You did not HAVE to go all out! You just followed a certain ethic of the roleplaying enviorment. You did not attack order if you didn't have good reason for it, you helped out newbies when you could, and helped them protect themselves from Pk'ers and other Murderous Chaotic people Smile Wich was also a way to give back to the community.
This is also a good reason to attack any chaos/order you want :icon_twisted: Wich I'm sure the XUO players will come to understand.. and if I'm not mistaken.. They'll do it alot!

What I'm asking is simply for the XUO players to give roleplaying a chance, like I once did, and I'm pretty sure that most of you, will come to recognize the beauty of it, and the depth it contribute to the game we all love and admire. Like I did.. .... Shit.. that last part sounded pretty darn gay.... :o

Veno,

We will certainly not put down RP. We will not discourage people from RPing, nor will we force people to RP. I think that many XUO players couldn't care less about it (specifically those who just ganked all day) and will continue to do what they please. I don't think it would be realistic to ask/hope that a crazy ganker will not run after you trying to kill you when you are RPing. XUO order/chaos players will most definitly attack whoever they want, regardless of their side.

If it would make you feel any better, all XUO players have officially submitted the following RP story: My name is <Your_Name_Here> and I am a ruthless murderer. I pursue my enemies to the edge of the world from dusk to dawn. I know not how to quench my thirst for blood, but only that each victim i kill allows me to carry on a little longer.

Possible starting story:

Dozens of refugee's, carrying what few possessions they could, flee their home land's just recently pillaged by monsters stronger then any encountered by their town's heroes (hello extreme monsters). Every last soldier of the town remained behind in order to give the women and children a chance to esacpe. (hence why nobody has all skills gmed). The oldest children among the survivors were capable of slaying the mortal beasts throughout Britania. Unfortunately, these beasts far outnumbered the fleeing refugees and many were lost during the long voyage. Those who survived the trip have come upon a town called Minoc which they hope to call home (notice the tents south of minoc? it can now be a refugee camp) and rebuild their lives and reputations as formidable crafters and soldiers.

A few days after the arrival of the refugees, there are sightings of gigantic, formidable monsters throughout Britania which easily slaughter those who stand to fight against them. These monsters even turn on each other at times. The now divided guilds of old; order and chaos, must once again be united as one force to conquer this impending invasion. Will you stand and fight, or will you forge thicker armor, and sharper, stronger blades then ever before for those who will fight against these beasts?

I love it Smile

Thanks,

I agree,
RP adds a certain depth to the game that cant really be measured. It makes the world you play in..well...feel more alive, or more real. Some of the best times I can remember on IN1 were RPing around the Silverymoon Inn. Now I dont know if it was an "RP zone" so to speak.
But It might be interesting if there were some RP zones, where you're encouraged to roleplay. That doesnt mean you have to speak all proper and whatnot, I mean we are typing and trying to save as much time as possible. Just be in character, for example, based off your Guild/Alliance. Like if ur chaos, dont go humping order (well I guess unless your a rapist).
Also maybe it would be interesting to include some of the players who are more active RP'ers in Static ongoing Quests. Instead of having GM's create and play the role of a character in a quest story, give the role to a trustworthy roleplayer, and dress him up appropriately or something. Who knows, maybe a King gets crowned in the land, a known assassination attempt on an Order Guild Master is happening (A guildmaster is a target, order defends him against chaos), or maybe its a just a damsel in distress. If players wants these roles, then they'll have to prove they wont start going all 733+ on us.
Just a thought....may encourage RP'ing more...maybe not...let me know your thoughts.

Pande :
That "couldnt care less" attitude is what ruins the fun for the rest of us. If we try to speak to such a person while in character we get called lame and gay which is hardly encouraging. Especially for new and younger players.

What id like was a generel agreement that if you are RP'd at you TRY to do it back. Not a rule just something that we can all agree on.
Thats what IN1 was all about, RP wasnt forced but people respected it enough to not mock it.

Horacio :
Thats exactly the type of thing im hoping for. The 2nd Silverymoon Inn(the one Jeb made by himself in the mountains) was a RP zone and it was fun to go there. It was near the end of IN1 though so there wasnt many people around unless he ran Grog drinking events Big Grin

Its good to see that there's a bunch of us who like RP'ing still. Im not alone in the world hehe Smile

Coming from IN Veno I know what you are talking about, but you can't expect someone to RP with you just because you direct some conversation to them. What you can and should expect I'm hoping is that they won't be responding with "OMG, RPers R of the Gay!". I assume this type of behavior won't be tolerated. RP and you will meet others who RP and eventually you'll know who you can carry a conversation with and who to avoid. You can't force everyone to RP, but you should expect that your experience shouldn't be ruined by those who don't. I'm not staff so I can't say for sure, but this is what I think most people have expected in the late IN.

Ultimately what created the atmosphere on IN1 was that older players had an ethic that they followed and it then rubbed off on younger players who wished to fit in. This is what created the IN community, the older established players were looked up to and emulated.

This can't be expected on IN:X because alot of the older players will be PvPers to the core. XUO was a pvp only shard, that is why people played there. I'm not putting that down in any way, I'm just saying that people don't change that easily.

Be mature and don't get phased or angry by those who don't respect how you play the game. There will always be nitwits, just carry on with whatever you enjoy and you'll find you'll have an impact on those around you who are worth getting to know.

Loved RP, agree with everything you guys are saying. In1.. if only everyone could have experienced it.. how the community got to be so realistic and amazing.. i have no idea.. but anyone who was their will remember the feeling you got when logging on. Especially if you made a real effort to be a part of the community and add to it.

Loved In1.. nothing has beaten or even come close yet. Really hope this does. I will probably once again, focus on taming.. been like .. wow 7 or 8 years? I can't remember when In1 closed.. but I haven't done taming like that since then.. so im going to try and resurrect my taming abilites and try to get into it again.. Rare spawns will really encourage me hahaha

I realllly think taming should be as hard as it was on in1 (took me 3 months straight taming to GM) and anyone who didn't use the exploits agrees it took some long on In1 to gm taming.. hence their was only like 6 gm tamers before the shard closed.. it really was that Rewarding to work on. I was the first GM tamer aside from one guy.. can't remember his name who got a character transfered before I arrived, and then someone Gmed it right after me.. can't remember who that was either haha, but I made millions before that person arrived.. In1 was so fun Big Grin

Skorpion, you made all the right points, took the words right out of my mouth. I can't remember when we met, but I know it was later on in some guild together.. i remember shooting arrows out of a tower or a keep at a rival guild hahaha think we had snow sorrounding our base.. been a long time.. dont remember. Those were the days.

When i first joined their was 25 ppl on at a time.. within a month, it jumped to like 100. FW was a pretty powerful guild at the time, the first guild i ever joined on In1 was Pheonix and Logan was the guild master, and The One got me to join.. some pretty interesting character back then.. was really amazing.

I remember walking up to the FW castle or KEEP and shouting over the wall to sell animals haha.
