With blacksmithy you can make items with ingots other then iron but you can't with tinkering. Should they be the same way?

Honestly, na I dont think so.
It really makes tinker too easy. 20k iron is all it takes to gm it.
It might only take 20k, but I think the two skills should be the same... when you mine you get lots of low ores too and you gotta use them somewhere, and what are you going to use them on after blacksmithy?

Turn them into stuff and sell them to a vendor or put them in the vendor mall for other people to raise smithy with.

And my iron sells really good so I don't want to use it up to train tinkering when I could make 200k off those 20k iron ingots Jiraiya says tinkering takes.
You cant have Everything at same time!! You have to chose if you want money or skill !!
But Anyway you arent going to waste 20k irons, you go make some money by training tinker, probably 100k, so not bad!! You get both skill and money.

No, different ingot types have different physical properties. Some have different melting points, ductility, etc. Only iron can be tinkered!
Way to take it a step too far Rabbi lol. Are you gonna make a gold helm weigh more then an iron helm too lol?

We made it like this because we feelt it was needed, blacksmithing would have taken too much time without the change.
We do not feel it is needed for tinkering.
