Questions
#13

I'm sure any weapon will stop spell spam being the weapon of choice in larger battles for the simple reason that entering melee in a big fight puts you in a very compromising position, even if your weapon guarantees you a kill odds are it will also result in your own death. I think if you have a system with no classes (no skill cap) it's not surprising not to see many styles of combat, everyone will always go for whatever is most efficient.

1) My bad, I was thinking that bandages used to cure poison instantly but now that I think about it more that doesn't seem quite right, I must have been thinking about a different server.
2) Yes, that's exactly what I mean. I'm not sure what you mean about weapons not being the major factor, but I remember PvP (in small numbers) being about waiting to land a lucky critical hit with your weapon (very random damage) and then capitalise with magery (non-random damage on most spells).

I'm actually installing UO right now!

Actually curing poison with bandages on IN1 was broken.
If you got poisoned and used bandages you would instantly use up a bandage and be "cured" and after that you could heal normally. Problem was that you weren't cured and after a while you would get hurt by the poison.

This is why everyone poisoned their weapons because it would take a sec for your opponent to "heal" the poison first, not to mention the horrible rubber-banding effect you got when doing it.

Good call installing UO, see you in game Tongue

Ah yes, now I remember, though I don't remember it being much of an issue, I almost exclusively bandage healed in most 1 vs 1s

Let's see how long it takes to get a suit of something rubbish and a force weapon and get stuck in Tongue

Quick question, because it wasn't clear from the earlier discussion, does poisoning affect magery or just the poisons you can make/apply to weapons?

Yeah the skill poisoning affects the spell poisoning.

Quote: I think in certain cases the new mechanics would actually make the gameplay better in ways that would have been great on IN but were impossible with the limited coding of sphere. I know that when I was a GM that I and the other GMs/Devs would have liked to change many things and just could not because sphere couldn't do it.

This line right here I think is super super important and it cant be emphasized enough! I know on In-uo we have integrated alot of run-uo features that never existed on IN.. but I hope that we can do even more in the future... This server is trying to mimic IN yes. But understand that IN was a very dynamic server and that it was made 10 years + ago so I think its important that we don't restrict ourselves to only recreating IN. And we haven't so that's a good thing!

And damn Carding you know your UO, I couldn't agree anymore with your other points! Mainly this paragraph. Its another important idea to not lose sight of:

Quote: Inevitably the massive advantages of high end gear really killed the system on the original IN, why not recreate the system as it was earlier in the server's life when it still worked pretty well? It's early days and the impact of high end gear is unlikely to be apparent yet but if you include things like HFs/SoVs in their old form it is inevitable that they will widen the gap between the established/best/richest pvpers and the new/poorer pvpers, which is really not a good things as making players go bankrupt to fight kills not only the pvp system but the economy as well.

Good luck!
