What are the Mercenaries?
Mercs are an independent organisation that works for money and our bound by contracts. Players may join Mercenaries and receive benefits for working for them.
Anyone who has over 550 skill points can join the Mercenaries.
How do I join?
There will be a Mercenary Office in most of the Major towns (also the old monastry outside Britain), you need to go up to the recruiter and say " I wish to join The Mercenaries ". Upon joining you are bound to the Mercs and receive a Title.
What if I don't like the title?
You can go up to the recruiter and say "remove title" and it will be removed every time you rank you will get a new title.
How do I rank?
You rank by approaching the recruiter and say Rank he will then rank you if you have enough merc points. When you rank you will receive a rank item.

How do I get merc points?
Contracts can be bought from Merc Vendors, they are as follows:
1k Merc contract: costs 2k + vendor cost gives 1k cash 1 merc point
2k Merc contract: costs 4k + vendor cost gives 2k cash 2 merc points
5k Merc contract: costs 10k + vendor cost gives 5k cash 5 merc points
10k Merc contract: costs 20k + vendor cost gives 10k cash 10 merc points
100k Merc contract: costs 200k + vendor cost gives 100k cash 100 merc points
You can see how many merc points you have by saying "rank status" to the recruiter.
They can also be found on "Wanted Monsters". you can only tell if the monster was wanted or not if you discover a contract in its loot.
You can buy your way up ranks via these contracts or you can use them as trade.
You can use them to hire people. Want a villain dispatching pay someone to do it via contracts. Only Mercs may cash contracts. Traders can use Mercs to, either buy yourself up the ranks or hire guards to guard you. Etc.
If you find contracts on monsters remember Mercs would normally pay twice as much for them. So if selling, adjust your price to suit.

What are the ranking items?
Rank 1 Merc Horse Deed
Your own person Merc Packhorse. These horses are strong and fast. Sometime it is know for Mercs to use them as weapons. They are naturally neutral but if you attack karma reds then the horse will gain karma and will soon turn blue. If you attack blues you horse could desert.
To use double click on deed and your horse will appear and follow your orders.
Rank 2 Use of Merc Bind Stones
Merc bound stones can be found at merc offices. They allow you to bind your spirit to the stone. To bind you just double click on the stone and your spirit will be bound. When you die you can use the command .bindback and your ghost will be transported to the stone you bound to.
Rank 3 +6 Mercy Robe of Protection (newbied)
The merc cloak of protection prized by every merc, it gives addition armour rating of +6 and is newbied.
Rank 4 Use of Merc Travel Stones
Allows freedom of travel to any city in the mainland and most of the dungeons. With these stones traders can travel quickly between cities.
Rank 5 Merc Personal Bind Stone Deed
Deed to place your own personal bind stone that only you can use. Theses are ideal if placed by your abode. Used the same as normal bindstones.
To place double click on deed and target where you want it placed. (Do not place in towns)
Note when you create the stone you must double click on it so its linked to you.
Rank 6 Merc Personal Resurrection Stone.
Deed to your personal resurrection stone. Very powerful and more so as you would have received a personal bind stone by time you reach this last rank.

When you finally rank to final rank you have all of the items above.
How do I resign?
Just say ?I resign from the mercenaries? in doing do you will be removed from the Mercs and lose all its privileges, you also lose all your merc points but you do keep rank so you can?t receive merc items twice.

You can buy the merc uniform and contracts from merc vendors. Only Mercs can where the uniform. Mercs will usually where their uniform if they are available for hire.
