I still remember back on IN1 that people were able to deco the outside of their default houses. When i first started on IN1 i remember making a fence outside Daemon Tower lol, and it was used for sheep we ported in to make cloth and stuff. Back then it was 3 or so tiles away from the house. Used barrels as locked down fences. Some of you gotta remember that lol. Anyway KM or JT or whomever removed that but it was reduced to 1 tile next to the house i believe. I remember i was still able to lock down things 1 tile next to the default houses i owned. From small houses up to castles. I believe it was that way till IN1 shut down. My question is, is that even a feature that would be considered? I know that its not something "stupendous" or anything but I kind of liked that feature for unique appearance. At least for Lanterns or lighting effects

We won't add decoration to custom houses or houses placed with deeds since I've seen lots of random decoration sitting around where someone had decoration and then redeeded the house or it decayed. There's also lots of random teleporters in the air for the same reason. We also don't do fences for the most part since people tend to add these to make forts or it could be used to block off areas and make safe recall areas or to take over a mine, etc. I remember on IN-X, we fenced in the entire swamp peninsula near Trinsic as our own.
Right now, I think there's a minimum of one space on the left/right of a house for it to be placed and three in front/back. So, if we allowed one space around each to be used as decoration, then people could build some sort of horizontal fort (on the X plane) to block off areas. So, we'd need to edit the script to increase the range, which could cause problems with already-placed houses.
I wouldn't be against adding a line or two in front of the house so that you could add some decoration next to the steps and not just on the steps, but I'm not sure how difficult it would be to edit that in the script. I'll let Taran respond to that.

I can totally understand the reason behind avoiding fenced in areas or safe recall areas in default houses and custom ones. Although, It would be nice to just have 1 tile next to house to put some kind of deco, even something that is wall related on house walls if there ever were a deco like that in the future. Sucks that would be very difficult to edit

Well i got a house now, just a one room default. Dont have money to buy another one at this time. I could convert i guess but do customs give you more options for outer deco than default ones besides making your house smaller and using the foundation? im guessing no lol

Well no, but you could use the foundation and decorate it so it looks like it's a front yard or something.
