Hi. The tournament arena for the 1vs1 tourneys seem to be causing lag to anybody in it. I tried joining a 1vs1 tourney there but the lag was crazy.

I came from Britain and the merc camp, where I didn't have any lag. I entered a fight and the lag was crazy. It could take up to two seconds for a spell to happen from when I hit the button at times. Then when it was over I left to Britain and the lag was gone.

I know that you are going to say that it is a static place and due to that it can't cause lag, but it did, to me and all the other players I asked during the tourney, so at least look into it will you?

If the tournament arena would not in any way affect the players lagspikes then how come it disappeared as soon as I left that place, and started as soon as I went there?

It won't affect me that much since I barely join any tourneys either way, but I just wanted to let you know that it is this way, and that a lot of us are experiencing it, and hopefully you will be able to figure out why it's happening and fix it, or make some temporary tournament arena that just has less items in it, for us players to enjoy while you figure out why the normal one is causing lag..

Also thanks to the new staffmember Redemption who hosted it, he did an amazing job. We had quite a few joiners and it was fun, so thanks for that, fix the lag and how stupidly low mana cost greater heal scrolls have, and it will be even more fun next time Smile (I will also make a new thread about the greater heal scrolls later when I have time, if nobody else from the tourney has done it by then)

For the lag issue I myself have experienced it and I have no idea what is causing it, maybe shade does. As for GH scrolls they are gonna be adjusted from what I know next server restart. Maybe not on mana consumption but for sure on cast time, and perhaps a few other scroll tweaks. PvP has just recently been happening more and more and we love to hear everyone's input on it. We are trying to replicate something so certain things wont change but as far as little tweaks with scrolls and what not we love to hear them. I myself have found a few problems and have expressed them to shade. As far as Weapons and AR go I would love to hear people's feed back on how they are. I haven't noticed nothing to drastic except a few minor AR changes as for weapons I think there pretty balanced IMO. Give us your feed back guys so we can make this the best shard we possibly can

UO is an old game, I think that it isn't connection lag but game lag. The items are frozen yes, which is why you won't get connection lag. But instead it strains UO, which I think is causing the "lag".
We're probably better off using Green Acres for tournies, even if it looks ugly.

I added a bunch of dragons to have them fight each other while I was punching them and running around and I didn't hit any real lag.

Is this only when you're in combat? And have you tried using .bf to block out other squares?

I haven't tried the .BF command here, I'll make sure to try that. Altho no other people were fighting during my last duel, and only 4 were observing, so I don't think that they would have caused the lag.

I agree with Taran about that Green Acresa probably would be better suited for tourneys, and also why that is.

Bah, I despise using areas that aren't regularly accessible to players.

Before we do anything like take away my field of grass that I roll around in, let me suggest a few things that might help.

As Eru said, the battle filter may help a bit. Also, disabling circle of transparency will help as well. Another suggestion is to turn off having the client cache houses, in the same tab where circle of transparency is at the bottom. You might also want to try toggling the "Run mouse in a separate thread" option, don't ask me why but a few other players had lag issue with this option. Disable the new targeting system. Don't use frame skipping or 565 color mode. Also have a resync button set for whatever program you use to connect and try using it whenever you are lagging.

Maybe some of this might help hopefully.

Ok, I don't think disabling circle of transparency will help in this case because there was nothing that had to be seen through with transparency where I was duelling, but I will try that anyway, no harm in trying right?

I turned my house caching thing down to 0 just to see what happens, interesting suggestion, never gotten that before from anybody. Will try it.

Frame skipping and 565 color modes were turned off.

I resynced several times during the duel, didn't help. One thing I did notice during the fights was that I had to resync a lot or my character would not be able to run in all directions, because my client thought I was at a different square than I was at. Don't know if there's a fix for that but please look into it if u have a second to spare.

Do you mean turning the hardware mouse off? In that case that's a VERY weird thing if it fixes the lag, but it's not a fix "worth it", because when running software mouse in UO the mouse is VERY choppy and its almost unplayable, at least last time I tried.

I will try another 1v1 tourney when one comes up, with these edited settings, and the BF, just to see, I'll report back to you here once I've tried it, just to let you know if any of that actually helped.

Also make sure you have updated the patcher since there was an error with it before that would cause several players to crash or get pretty heavy lag.

yeah me and 3 other ppl also lagg like crazy. I hit my FS macro key and it takes like a second or two for it to show up.. its very irritating.. same with movement also can we make outside of the arena invul or something? As soon i get out of the tourney I'm vulnerable. I was even killed. Its not even fair.

Its up to the event handler to declare if there is fighting allowed or not and to maintain order. I don't like safe zones and I don't like arenas in areas that aren't in the actual world where players can get to.

I added a region controller so that the area can be toggled to safe during events
