Come on lets get real here...
There's servers with 700+ players that have automated tournements. Why dont the players off those huge servers complain? lol... If people complain kick them out the tournement, If you're not ready to fight, dont join the tournement like you are. If you havent prepared for the tournement, you shouldnt be there in the first place...
In fact, your slowing everyone else down, people who have things to do (maybe after the tournement), slowing down the game play and boring people by having 1 long ass 1:30h tournement, which could have been completed in 45 mins if executed properly.
Yankovic Wrote:as Gang-Bang points out, a script can never replace a staffmember. In all events that I saw that are hosted by staffmembers. There was always someone that did not agree with all the actions that that particular staffmember took. If people don't even think that a staffmember can handle events, then what do you think that would happen with a script?
Having an automated tournement makes it
FAIRE for everyone, equally... a computer doesnt take sides, which eliminates all problems. its straight forward fight, next, fight, next... with some time ofcourse(programmed) to get you ready for the next fight.
All major successfull servers have automated events, and they work without complaint. If people here are complaining, its mostly because of stupidity anyways... Also having these tournements by script, really gives time to GM's to do other things other than hosting a 1 30h hour tournement and feeling as though they never get off the pc which creates arguments (i was on for 4 hours)... okay what did you do within the 4 hours? hosted 2 events.... where as theres pages unanswered, bugs to be fixes, etc... (this all happens when the server has a decent amount of population ofcourse, which we are expecting... right?)
Just to say it benefits everyone, less time consuming, less wasted time for staff who can help players, more organized, less complaints...
right maka? :x
Thanks

That's what it really boils down to.

Ah you must be that fabled player, Silverwolf, that has never had a single moment where you had to go afk, got dc'd, logged on as entrance to an event is about to close or needed an extra minute to get ready.
Seriously that's a pretty awful way to look at it. Show some respect and patience for your fellow players. Somehow there are still people who are new to UO or at the very least very inexperienced and that does not mean they shouldn't have fun too.

You might be ready when you join the event in first place, but everything might happen in hour, your pc might reboot, maybe you had to open door or something. Certain time to prepare for the fight might be too short sometimes. What if it's a final of 50 ppl tournament and your client crashed? Or pc rebooted. GM would wait a little longer to give the guy a time to log in. The script won't. Yea well you can say "bad luck dude", but why it has to be based on luck even in these situations? Besides that, do we often have much probelms with loads of unanswered pages or countless bugs not being fixed? Yea we don't have much people online at the moment, but not even half of the staff is active either, so I don't think it will be a problem...
What I'm saying - I'm all for having a script which will host automated tours, but if staff has a time to do it themselves - even if it's longer it's still better.

I never said I was the player who's always ready and prepared for a tournement. If I did please point that out.
None the less, it isn't everyone elses problem that someone came late IF an automated tourny is happening. I'm not saying ALL tournements should be automated, and just because it's automated doesnt mean you cannot give a heads up by paging everyone ingame telling them there's a tournement.
Shade I've seen it on the Staff's point of view, being a GM twice, on different versions of XUO, and being a player, so I know exactly what the problems are and what can eliminate problems aswell....
See you're not even looking at it as a whole, your still stuck on the "people aren't ready" argument. Which can easily be solved by advising people ahead of time of an automated tournement.
ASIDE from that, there's in the tournement problems too..
Example:
GM I WANNA FIGHT FIRST, GM I WANNA FIGHT DIREWOLF FIRST, GM WHY YOU PICK ME VERSUS THE BEST PLAYER, GM WHY ARE HIS FRIENDS FIGHTING EACH OTHER, GM GM GM...
Get the drift? than GM's get pissed, kick people out, jail people for arguing, jail people for spamming because of unfaire match ups...
So Shade, All due respect, I know what I'm talking about from the jist of it. I've been a staff and player for XUO for over 5 years. I might be a *****, but that's my "roleplay". If there was a GM Trashtalker, I would be awarded and proud aswell... but when it comes to the technical things in the game, I'm well aware of what i'm saying, and how it can help this server by AVOIDING problems...
Ps; One valid point you have gang-bang is that your client crashes while your in a duel. If someones at the door or something you need to reboot, there's easy fixes ingame by scripts. doesn't mean the entire idea of an automated tourny is bad... have a script that PAUSES or something. stops the duel for x amount of time, and you can only use it x amount of times per tourny or fight, which ever...
There's tons of possibilities, we have maka's automated tournement bot that we can use as a foundation and make adjustments accordingly, the hard part is done i'd say.
--------My bottom line in all of this, because this can go on forever---------
It's to spead up game time, have less arguments, be more organized, be somewhat (competitive??) if that makes sense, towards those more MODERN games which are more advanced... Atleast it's not like everything feels like it takes a lifetime. Keeps people more mentally awake meaning they will want to go gank or pve after a quick tournement, where as a long tournement with tons of arguments and delays can cause people to log out due to boredom and annoyance.

I would never substitute staff hosted events for automated ones, but I could definitely see automated events as a complement. If the latest version of XUO had an automated system I should be able to modify it to work with IN:X. Unless it's too complicated that is.

Well if the latest XUO version had it I will find it, because I have the scripts.
Exactly how did it work? And which events did it work with?

Didn't Mito just mention it was injection script combined with some xml spawners? As in, you would need a GM character online running that script as a "macro" if I understood it right.

It ran 1vs1 tournements, basically gathered everyone, and randomly selected people to fight. it was like a normal 1vs1 4 duels happeneing at one time, when someone dies it ressurects and teles out and the winner is off the the next round. it spoke the rules, counts down, etc...
a bot for a 1vs1 basically...
I believe Mito said he had it and like you said you must have the files aswell taran.
and yeah Kamos sounds about right, was a GM bot I believe.

Yes you understood right, what maka had in XUO was an injection macro and he run it on his Admin character. So Taran you won't find it in XUO files.
