so why did you see a problem when he deleted his own script from public?

Ouch - Fulmanar - 04-10-2012

Artur could literally and legally just say that the scripts are his anyway, what if Artur wrote it himself and it just coincidentally is the exact same or hell, he could change the smallest thing and it not becomes a new intellectual property.

Christ you people are really lost sometimes, copyright law hah.

Turbo published his scripts open sourced onto an open forum for all to copy, no one stands to make a profit and he already let his work go out to the masses he has no more right to his work than I have a right to claim the sun is mine, I see it every morning and it shines for me it must be mine!

it's not really published this is game forum which hosts a 20 year old game please.. Not to mention his name is stamped in his macro your gonna try and argue it's not his? It's simple enough if he doesn't want his scripts posted here he has the right too it, taran apologized and respected him enough and removed them for a reason.

Artur your completely ungreatful

Ouch - Artur - 04-10-2012

Haha mining macro protected by copyright law. Por corp wis I dont see the problem, it's just funny because he published it and allowed us to use it and after being punished he is deleting it and forbiding us to use that macro and some of you are talking rubbish about copyright law. We didnt steal that macro from him.

Which goes to show how much you know of copyright law, he let his work out to the masses, he does not own the program in which the script was made or the tools that made it if you wanted to be so legal you would have to state that they own the script.

For Turbo to copyright and "own" his script he'd have to register it with the copyright domain/trademark registry, this has not been done and he published it here for anyone to use and copy per gratis so hell I could go tomorrow and copyright this and it would be mine.

Funny how the law works, he has literally no complaint he published his own script willingly and openly for all of us, Hell Taran owns the forum. The post he made Taran owns that too he has nothing to apologize for.

And let's not even get started about international copyright law, holy **** we're both in Canada, and Quebec even has it's own sets of laws, shit smoke, have you used anyone elses scripts here too? we might be busted.

Incredible.

You should look up automatic copyright.

Ouch - sm0ke - 04-10-2012

It's called respect apparently you two never learned it, you wanna be idiots posting his macro when taran posted/removed it himself fine be idiots

EDIT:

For Rob, good call

Quote:As of January 1, 1978, under U.S. copyright law, a work is automatically protected by copyright when it is created. Specifically, “A work is created when it is “fixed” in a copy or phonorecord for the first time.”

For this automatic protection to exist you do not have to register with the U.S. Copyright Office, or even have published your work. For unpublished works, however, there must be some form of tangible proof of when you created the “expression” or material, and that it is your creation.

It had his name in his script and his ip in his forum account I'm pretty sure that's proof enough if he wanted it down enough.

And what if I lived in a country that did not ratify the berne treaty? What if turbo did? you're being an apologist, turbo clearly has no legal ground to stand on and claiming he has a copyright is absurd, if you let music go for free on itunes you can't suddenly turn around and start suing people for downloading it

He broke the rules multiple times blaringly to the staff then denied it to their faces, yes very worthy of respect, I still like the fact that you even stated copyright law, as if you have any idea what you're talking about.

I don't use his script nor have I copied it, but if I wanted to copy and paste it somewhere to keep it for posterity how is that disrespectful? are we not remember turbo as he was? a wonderful script writer? he should be exalted.

Ouch - Artur - 04-10-2012

Well said. If he fell harmed, he can sue us for publishing and using his macros. Por corp wis has and smoke have no idea about copyright law. I couldnt explain it as clearly as Fulmanar because Im not english native speaker.

Ouch - Taran - 04-10-2012

Rob is right actually. Since the website and forums are hosted in the US that means that everything users create and publish is their own work and thus copyright protected. At least by default, but in our case we own everything posted on these forums (you agree to that when registering on the forums) and any copyrights are transfered to us as soon as you post it. Kinda like Facebook owns all photos you upload.

So legally I can do what I want with his script but I removed it out of respect and because it was a douchy thing to do. Sure, turbonegro is a duche for removing the scripts but I don't want to fall to his level.

Ouch - Fulmanar - 04-10-2012

It's funny how much you know smoke and how you need to latch onto others to make your point, Automatic Copyright is not for all creations and is not ratified in all countries(however few) AND he would still have to prove he originally made all of it AND there are fair use limitations to copyrights, you have literally no clue what you're talking about. Prototype is a registered copyright and trademark of Activision publishing circa 2011, best get to changing that you disrespectful clout, that was a great game.
