Lineage II was ok, in my opinion. It didn't hold my interest enough to play beyond the beta though...
Tabula Rasa shows promise minus consensual PvP.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that the reason it was cancelled was because UO still had a huge playerbase and was still bringing in tons of money, so it would be kinda stupid to release UO2 and kill the UO cashcow.

its called EVE, its warfare on an epic scale
im in Goonswarm, currently in a war engulfing the whole server (which has an average population of about 25,000. the war probably involves at least half that)

I don't see why it's so unreasonable to pay to play a game if it's a quality title.
Server costs, developer costs, maintenance costs, legal costs, general business costs. 10-15 per month isn't an outrageous request considering they're guaranteeing you a quality place to play with a large population and frequent updates.
